$500,000 worth of scholarships is available for commencing Indian students to help strengthen our bond with India.

Aryan’s big idea is to create an app to link farmers with nearby storage facilities and markets. In India, 40 percent of crops are wasted because they do not reach storage facilities or the markets in time. Aryan’s app will improve the livelihoods of Indian farmers, reduce poverty and food wastage.

Benefits

A total of 28 scholarships will be awarded annually, consisting of:

  • 3 x $40,000 per annum for any undergraduate degree of up to four years.
  • 10 x $20,000 first-year scholarships for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • 15 x $10,000 first-year scholarships for undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Eligibility

You must:

  • be a citizen and current resident of India
  • have received an unconditional offer of admission to an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree from the University of Sydney.

Note: You are not eligible if you are a permanent resident of Australia, or if you have previously held a University of Sydney India Scholarship.

Terms and conditions

1. Background

The Sydney Scholars India Scholarships are awarded to exceptional international students. The Scholarship is open to all commencing Indian students enrolled full time in an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree.

2. Eligibility

a. To be eligible for the Scholarship, applicants must be an international student as defined in the Higher Education Support Act 2003. This excludes Australian citizens and permanent residence.

b. You must hold Indian citizenship and be a current resident of India. Proof of residency will be required.

c. The applicant must have an unconditional offer of admission and not yet commenced an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree at the University of Sydney at the time of application for the award.

d. Applicants commencing a second degree at the University of Sydney are eligible to apply provided they have not previously held The Sydney Scholars India Scholarship.

3. Selection Criteria

a. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic merit and personal statement assessed from a student’s application for admission to an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree and the details provided in the scholarship application.

b. The Scholarship will be awarded on the nomination of a selection committee consisting of two academic nominees and two non-academic nominees made by the Vice-Principal (External Relations).

4. Value

a. Three scholarship amounts are offered based on ranking against selection criteria:

I. $40,000 per annum for any undergraduate degree up to four years or

II. $20,000 for one semester only, or

III. $10,000 for one semester only.

b. Applicants must complete the “Acceptance of their Unconditional Admission Offer” by the deadline associated with their scholarship offer round. Failing to do will result the scholarship offer being rescinded.

c. On award, student must remain enrolled at the University of Sydney after census date.

d. The payment will be made to the student after the census date of each semester.

e. Deferral or suspension of the Scholarship is not permitted. 

f. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds

g. No other amount is payable.

5. Ongoing eligibility

a. To continue receipt of the Scholarship, the recipient must maintain a minimum semester average mark (SAM) of 65 and have no outstanding fees.

b. Recipients undertaking an exchange during the tenure of this Scholarship are required to have achieved a Satisfied Requirements grade (SR) to receive their next payment.

c. The Scholarship is transferable to another major, degree or faculty but is not transferrable to another University.

6. Termination

a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:

I. withdraws from an eligible course or fails to enrol,

II. becomes a domestic student,

III. commences part-time study without prior approval,

IV. does not maintain satisfactory academic performance,

V. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their Scholarship application,

VI. has accepted another scholarship administered by the University of Sydney (funded by the University or by a third party), excluding the Sydney International Student Award, of a value exceeding A$5,000 per annum,

VII. does not resume study at the end of a period of approved leave, or

VIII. any other provision as indicated in these terms that would lead to termination.

b. Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or withdraws from the relevant course, the University reserves the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient be reimbursed.

7. Other Requirements

a. Scholarship recipients may be invited to promote the program in which they are enrolled as well as represent the University of Sydney at student events, marketing events, and corporate networking events. Costs of representing the University of Sydney at these functions will be met by the University of Sydney.
