HISTORY AND MEANING OF IOT : TODAY’S INTERNET OF THINGS (IOT)

 TODAY’S INTERNET OF THINGS (IOT) : In 1990 at annual exhibition organised by UBM, John Romkey introduced a toaster which connected to the computer. That computer was having internet connection with the help of that he was able to turn on and off and it is first IOT device.

 Kevin Ashton is the first person who introduced the term Internet Of Things in 1999. During his work at P&G company and he is also know as father of IOT.

 It a platform where smart devices connected to the internet so they can interact, collaborate. Exchange data as they equipped with software, sensors and other technology.

 In simple words IOT is an ecosystem of connected. Physical objects that are accessible through the internet.

HOW DOES AN IOT WORKS ? : TODAY’S INTERNET OF THINGS (IOT)

Capture The Data

First sensors collects the data from the particular area. Here sensors in the device plays very important role. Capturing the data like temperature reading in that area.

Share The Data

Here the data that has collected sent to the cloud but it needs a way to get there and that can be done through cellular network and wi-fi. The data that sent to the cloud saved there.

DATA PROCESSING

Once the data gets to the cloud then software performs data processing on it. At this point software programmed in that device that it can do something based on the data it has received such as text alert to the user.

ACT ON THAT DATA

The final information made available to the end user in different ways like message, email and notification. It will provide solution to the problem.

APPLICATIONS OF IOT : TODAY’S INTERNET OF THINGS (IOT)

WEARABLES

Smartwatch is the best example for wearables. IOT is very much useful here, the Apple Watch series 6 this watch comes with a sensor know as SPO2 which helps to measure the Oxygen saturation in the blood. Whenever the SPO2 level decrease in body then the watch sends an alert message to him and then he needs to consult the doctor. The normal level of SPO2 in body is 95% less then that is not good for human body.

SMART HOME

There are many types of smart home devices such as smart camera, smart A/C, smart bulb and so on. Smart camera plays very effective role, this MI home security camera 360 when we place this camera at some corner of room and if some one enters that room the camera with the help of the motion detection sensor detects that movement instantly send a notification and starts recording 10 second clip. We can also watch live feed.

DISASTER MANAGEMENT

There is a Forest and in that there are some smart device that has smoke detection and temperature reading sensors in it. If there an outbreak of fire at that time the sensors in that device detects heat i.e increase in temperature and then an alert sent to the forest control room necessary steps can taken after it.

AGRICULTURE

There is a greenhouse and there are different types of sensors, controls and switchgear area in it. Here the sensors sense the area of issue and then they send that issue to the cloud via internet, the data analysed or processed and cloud sends a remote command to the sensors via internet the command further passed down to the control and switchgear which then activates for example water pumps if there low moisture content in soil.

CAN WE RELY ON IOT DEVICES ? : TODAY’S INTERNET OF THINGS (IOT)

 Lack of Security And Privacy Issue.

 What if Sensors Malfunctions?
