In Hack APAC you will Use your development skills and imagination to build apps that run on OpenShift to help make life safer, easier, or less stressful for people, communities and businesses in the ‘new normal.
Help define the new normal for a post-COVID world
Hack APAC is all about using Red Hat OpenShift to build Kubernetes-native applications that make life safer, easier, and less stressful for clients and customers in a post-COVID world.
Here are some examples of the types of problems you might solve:
Help travelers navigate constantly changing travel restrictions and processes.
Assist people who have been impacted by the pandemic.
Improve the home-based learning experience.
Make working from home less stressful for the whole family.
Dates and Timing of Hack APAC :
Registration Period : September 21 (1:00 pm UTC+8) – October 14 (11:59 pm UTC +8) (“Registration Period”).
Submission Period: October 15 (12:00 am UTC +8) – November 16 (00:15 pm UTC +8) (“Submission Period”).
Judging Period: November 22 (10:00 am UTC +8) – December 1 (5:00 pm UTC +8) (“Judging Period”).
Winners Announced: On or around December 3 (1:00 pm UTC +8).
REQUIREMENTS:
- firstly, Build (or update) a functioning open-source project that showcases the technical benefits of the developer tooling available on the OpenShift application platform.The submission will run (in part) on the OpenShift Developer Sandbox (link) and optionally utilize the Red Hat OpenShift Streams for Apache Kafka (link).
- secondly, Provide a URL to your code repository for judging and testing;or a link to your functioning demo.In addition provide instructions on how to ‘start’ your project.
- lastly, Include a video (about 3 minutes) that demonstrates your submission.Videos must be uploaded to YouTube, Vimeo, or Facebook Video and made public.
ELIGIBILITY:
- Residents of Australia, Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, and Thailand (“Eligible Countries”)
- Individuals who are at least the age of majority in the Eligible Country in which they reside as of the time of entry (“Eligible Individuals”);
- Teams of Eligible Individuals (“Teams”); and
- Organizations (including corporations, not-for-profit corporations and other nonprofit organizations, limited liability companies, partnerships, and other legal entities) that exist and have been organized or incorporated at the time of entry.
How to participate in Hack APAC ?
The goal is to build (or update) a functioning open-source project that showcases the technical benefits of the tooling available on OpenShift. There are just a few rules as mentioned below:
- firstly, Your project should run on the Developer Sandbox for Red Hat OpenShift and (optionally) leverage Red Hat OpenShift Streams for Apache Kafka.
- secondly, You must provide a link to the project’s code repository.
- at last, You must include a three-minute video demonstration of your submission.

JUDGING CRITERIA:
Quality of the Idea
Includes creativity, originality; Are there features or techniques used that have not been previously observed in systems? Are there new inventions or business methods that support the novelty?
Implementation
Includes how well the idea was executed by the developers also how much of the available OpenShift developer catalog was utilized; code quality
Ease of Use & User Experience
How well does the application allow users to achieve goals with effectiveness, efficiency, and satisfaction in a specified context of use for instance?
Potential Impact & Value
To what degree does the application enable or deliver progressive developments within a field for competitive advantage, extensive adoption, and market reach.
