| Description | ICF seeks a Health Data Scientist to join their team in Kenya.The Health Data Scientist will provide technical leadership on malaria data issues to the project. The data scientist will participate in various aspects of data analysis including developing analytical approaches for routine data and data from other sources such as program data and survey data. The data scientist will support data quality improvement efforts across the all health service levels in Kenya. The data scientist will lead collaborative efforts among the Ministry of Health stakeholders geared towards improving availability and quality of data for malaria surveillance, monitoring, and evaluation (SME) at both national and county levels. |

Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in public health, epidemiology, demography, data science, statistics, or biostatistics
- At least seven years of experience working with quantitative heath data
- Understanding of routine health data and health information systems in Kenya
- Understanding of data quality assessment tools and methods, and experience in addressing data quality issues related to routine health information data
- Proficiency in analyzing and interpreting routine and non-routine data, and effectively communicating results and findings
- Knowledge of data analytics and visualization tools, techniques, and methods
- Proficiency in statistical analysis and good knowledge of at least one statistical package (e.g., SPSS, R, Stata, SAS)
- Knowledge of geospatial analysis
- Excellent English oral and written communication skills and
- Ability to package information for various audiences
- Ability to travel locally up to 30% of time
- Legal ability to work in Kenya
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with infectious disease data
- Proficiency in malaria epidemiology and SME
- Proficiency in abstracting and linking data from large relational data sets
- Previous experience in working with Kenya Ministry of Health, USAID-related projects, and PMI
- Ability to work in programming languages and big data technologies such as Python, SQL, Hadoop, Apache Spark, etc
- Professional certification in data science

- Excellent problem-solving skills with ability to analyze situations, identify existing or potential problems and recommend solutions
- Ability to work with all levels of internal staff, outside clients, and vendors
- Ability to be flexible to handle multiple priorities
