Kiva Fall 2021

Kiva Fall 2021 is a social impact organization with a mission to expand financial access to help underserved individuals and communities thrive. We are hosting this pilot annual hackathon to bring together students, companies, and social impact leaders to focus on how we might better use technology to scale access to capital for small businesses, farmers, students, and entrepreneurs around the world.

in conclusion, Kiva.org is a digital marketplace where individuals can lend as little as $25 to create opportunities for people around the world. In partnership with a global network of local lending institutions, Kiva.org provides loans for more than 3.5 million entrepreneurs and others in need.

Kiva is a social impact organization with a mission to expand financial access to help underserved individuals and communities thrive. We are hosting this pilot annual hackathon to bring together students, companies, and social impact leaders to focus on how we might better use technology to scale access to capital for small businesses, farmers, students, and entrepreneurs around the world for instance.

This is a hackathon where we encourage people of all backgrounds and expertise to participate, regardless of technical experience.  Although encouraged, your project does not necessarily have to contain code if it can make up for a lack of functionality in other ways, such as a thorough thought process or excellent design for example.

JUDGING CRITERIA:

  • Impact
    firstly, Would Kiva be able to make use of this project in a real world context to achieve its mission of poverty alleviation and financial inclusion?
  • Innovation
    secondly, Does the product introduce an interesting approach or perspective to a particular problem, technical, analytical or visual?
  • Functionality
    thirdly, Does the product function as intended? It is robust and easy to interact with?
  • Presentation
    at last, Does the design of the product enhance the functionality of the product? Does it communicate its message and intentions clearly?


Who can participate in Kiva Fall 2021 ?

Above legal age of majority in the country of residence

The Hackathon IS open to: 

  • Individuals who are at least the age of majority where they reside as of the time of entry (“Eligible Individuals”);
  • also Employees of the Sponsor
  • as well as Teams of Eligible Individuals (“Teams”)

Project Requirements:

(i) What to Create: Entrants must build a project to further poverty alleviation and financial inclusion addressing at least one of the problem statements listed; all projects must be a completed application, well-thought-out innovation, or game-changing product idea. (Completed applications are encouraged, see judging criteria) (each a “Project”). 

(ii) firstly, Functionality: If the Project is a completed application, the project must be capable of being successfully installed and running consistently on the platform for which it is intended and must function as depicted in the video and/or expressed in the text description.

(iii) secondly Platforms: A submitted completed application Project must run on the platform for which it is intended and which is specified in the Submission Requirements. 

(iv) New & Existing: Projects must be newly created by the Entrant during the Hackathon Submission Period.

(v)also Third-Party Integrations: If a Project integrates any third-party SDK, APIs and/or data, the Entrant must be authorized to use them.

(vi) Testing: The Entrant must make the Project available free of charge and without any restriction, for testing, evaluation and use by the Sponsor, Administrator, and Judges until the Judging Period ends.
