1. Non aligned movement: (Main principles of our foreign policy)
So, India’s policy of non-alignment simply means that India will think and act independently and impartially in international matters and that’s why India chose the policy of NAM. The policy of NAM does not indicate an escapist or separatist attitude but an effort to establish friendly support.
2. Opposition of colonialism and imperialism:
India has bitter experience of slavery under British imperialism. So India opposed it naturally. Therefore India has been raising voice against imperialism in the UN.
3. Against Apartheid:
India believes in equality of all races of the world. Also prior to its independence; India had been raising voice against inhuman policy of racism and discrimination and policy of apartheid in South Africa. Therefore complete end of racism in international communities is the prime principle of India’s Foreign policy.
4. Panchsheel:(Main principles of our foreign policy)
The idea of panchsheel came up on Tibet when India and China signed on May 29, 1954. Moreover, Panch means five and sheel stands for rule of conduct and the five prime principals of panchsheel are:-
- Mutual respect of each others territorial integrity and sovereignity.
- Also non-aggression
- Moreover non-interference in each others internal affairs.
- Equality and mutual benefits.
- Therefore peaceful co-existence.
5. Support for World peace:
India is among the original members of the UN. Also India works for global peace. Therefore it has been attached to the organization like ILO, UNICEF, FAO and UNESCO.
6. Support for disarmament:
India has always opposed the arms race. Consequently to achieve it is necessary to stop manufacturing of arms and destroy which are ready made. Therefore the money saved by disarmament, can be used for the development of all the countries.
7. Nuclear Policy:
India is against the use of Nuclear power in war. Also India does not support nuclearization of space, yet vehemently opposes the policy of non-proliferation of nuclear arms as it has based on partiality.
8. Support to SAARC:
So to develop fraternity with south Asian nations. India has lent support in the establishment of SAARC. There are seven countries in SAARC:- India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Bhutan, Sri Lanka and Maldives.
